I had a similar problem whereby a user registered, then tried to list a new item.

I realised that the user had not clicked the link that was sent via email. They simply copied and pasted the password into the script. As far as I can work out, the prereg data is the initial setup. It could be that although the data file had been created, the script didnt recognise the login because it was not looking for it in prereg - wrong directory.

Again - from what I can work out, the prereg data is deleted once user has confirmed (using the link sent by email). This is complicated at first but if I can work it out, anyone can.
