Please, check the char settings of your editor. If you want to use the Pound sign (from your keyboard), you have to save the file in latin-1 mode If you want to use an (ASCII, ANSI, UNICODE) encoded Pound sign, you have to save the file in ASCII, ANSI or UNICODE mode.
