Auction End
11/01/05 at 15:03:39

Dieter,
Is it possible to continue the auction to its declared ending time even if the reserve price has been met?

Currently if the reserve price is met the auction will close after 5 minutes (if Sniper protection is activated) unless a higher bid is placed.

Regards,
Marshall

Marshall,

everything is possible - but the question is:
Is it meaningful to do this?

Either you start an auction by setting the starting price very low (in this case you can use the reserve price option) or you start an auction by setting (your) reserve price to be the starting price.

Sorry - I'm not sure if my comment is understandable English ...

Perfectly understandable.

But my thinking is that if, for example, an auction is posted to run for 4 days (without a buy-it-now price), some interested people, especially if they have some auction experience on EBay, could well intend to return to participate during the last hour of the auction. But they would  find it already closed (reserve price met, auctioned closes after 5 minutes). This would remove some potential for additional elevation of the selling price and could result in a disappointed visitor, who had hopes of being a participant. I know they have the "Bid Agent" option but not all users are comfortable with that or actually understand how it works. You and I do, but remember that it is the "multitudes" that will be using the auction program.

My comment is only a feedback type-of-thought and in no way a criticism of the program.

Regards,
Marshall
