Hi there Dieter.

First I would like to say that I like your script, and thats why Im interested in new version, and that is reason that Im asking you about the way to run it on my auction site.

As I can see only link to download new version is located on this page: Multimedia file viewing and clickable links are available for registered members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!
and it says :
"Donate a generous amount in favor of the further development of eAuction.
In return you will get the current beta version of
eAuction 1.6.2.xx
as a note of thanks."

Once again I want to say that I like your work, and I think that it is normaly for people to help such projects by donations, but when you say "only if you donate - In return you will get the current beta version of eAuction 1.6.2.xx as a note of thanks", here we are talking about exchange proces, here we talking about offer.

For me its much fair to say "the price is", than "donate and you will get", because thats mean "no donation no script", so I think that  we cant talk about Open Source in this case".

Ill be glad if Im in wrong about this?  : (

Sorry, but it seems as if you are in a wrong idea about the meaning of 'Open Source'.

No, that isn't normal ...

A plain statistic:

- eAuction v1.6.1.x has been downloaded approximately 30,000 times now   Cheesy
- the forums have approximately 1,100 registered members  Smiley
- 26 users of eAuction v1.6.1.x have donated  :'(

And ...
eAuction v1.6.2.x is still a beta version and therefore I don't give it away to every anonymous user.
The use of PayPal is the one and only possibility to get the real name and the real email of the downloader.

Take it easy - take a beer ...  Wink

You are 100% right. My english isnt so good, so I didnt express myself on the right way.

I use everyday many open source scripts. I know what is mean by Open Source. And, all of them (when I say all, I mean all) are 100 % free, even in devile (development status), free to download.

I dont see reason why you dont want to allow everyone to see new version, even if v1.6.2.x is still a beta version. I see that some users are using it.

Only reason could be that you are going to commercialize your script, I dont see another. And that is your right offcourse.

Once again, I think that this explanation: "The use of PayPal is the one and only possibility to get the real name and the real email of the downloader" is not good reason for this: "Donate a generous amount in favor of the further development of eAuction.  In return you will get the current beta version of eAuction 1.6.2.xx  as a note of thanks."

There are other ways to get name of downloader, and here come new question: why you need downloader name???
