Customizing outgoing e-mails?

Is there any way to customize the text in the outgoing e-mails to new registers and winning bidders? My auction is for a specific organization and I'd like to add some more specific directions for payment, etc. Too often our members can't be troubled to follow the directions listed with each item & need another reminder.
