W2K problems after MS upates

After applying some MS updates last week, user registration and auction closing has been broken. When you register a new user and submit, you get:

Error
eMail Service not available. Sad

The email address that is registered gets a registration confirmation email, the admin does not (and should), and the used_email.dat file is not updated. When

When auctions close, a message is sent out with the information of the first item in the auction category, one for each open auction in the category, all with the same information. Angry

It looks like a file manipulation problem. I've set directory privileges to Everybody:full, just to see if that is the issue, it was not. I was unable to cleanly remove the patches.

Any ideas? ???

Hi Mike,

the script has been developed under Win (NT and 2k).
Therefore everything has been tested on Win servers as well as Linux servers.

I don't know what kind of MS updates you installed; but I know that my (local and external) servers are up to date and that the scripts are running there.

It would be nice if you could tell me something more about your MS updates.

P.S.
Have you checked the 'write' permissions of the directories?

It worked fine on Friday April 2. I had several items close @ 3:00 p.m. I ran the Windows update and installed the following updates:

822831
814078
KB829558
KB820888
823559
Q329115
330994
KB832894
Root certificates.
IE 6 SP1.
and a NIC driver update.

I noticed the problems Monday. I was using eA-1.6.1.56, I installed eA-1.6.1.58 this week. I have some customizations, but it works the same with a stock install. The script and config files had not been changed for several days before the problem appeared.
