Is it possible to configure the script so that I may auction a single item that I own and prevent other site visitors posting additional and different items for auction? Obviously registration would still be required for bids on my item.
I've looked through the script and the forum but cannot see where this may be configured

No, sorry - that's not possible.
It's an auction and not a shop ;)
