Title: eAuction 1.6.1.xx Post by lwarren54 on 03/30/06 at 21:45:38 This program is far too difficut use. There is very little support in the downloaded version. After downloading, I had two gif files, a license agreement and two pl files. There is very little explanation of hopw to set up the pl files. As well, there is no explanation (the same thing occurs with all script files found on the internet) of how to set up a html page to access the pl files. If you are going to take the time to generate those script files, why not an explanation of how to incorporate the script file in to a html page? |

Actually the file eConfig161.pl allows you to do a lot html coding, if you know how. If you look at some of the sites in the "Show us your Auction" section you will see what I mean. Put the 2 scripts in your cgi-bin inside a folder named eAuction161 and set the permissions for eAuction.pl to 755 and eConfig161.p to 644 All the directions to get the program running begin at line 393 of eAuction.pl My suggestion is to not change anything in the config file until you see that it the program does not run. Running the test, explained in the Instructions at line 393, creates all the additional folders where they are needed. # INSTALLATION: # ----------------- # In order to run the program you have to download # the Config-File (eConfig161.pl) too. # # - edit eConfig161.pl and save it # - save THIS file as eAuction.pl # - search your server for your cgi-bin directory # - create a new sub-directory: eAuction161 # - chmod that sub-directory (at least) 755. # # - upload # eAuction.pl # eConfig161.pl # to the directory 'eAuction161' (use ASCII-Mode) # # - chmod 755 eAuction.pl # - chmod 644 eConfig161.pl # - start your browser and type in: # http://YourDomain/cgi-bin/eAuction161/eAuction.pl # # In order to create 'Test-Items' # - start your browser and type in: # http://YourDomain/cgi-bin/eAuction161/eAuction.pl?action=test # # In order to use the delivered icons (or your own icons) # - start your FTP-Program again # - select the directory 'eAuction' # - select the sub-directory 'auction_pics' # - upload the pics to this directory (use Binary-Mode) # # # Notice that the script is asking for Perl 5.6.0 (or higher) !! # I don't know whether it is runable under Perl 5.5.x Sounds to me like you have not tried to get it running yet. mars |

If you are going to use such script files ... why don't you make yourself able to understand how files like this are working? You should know that a CGI script (like this) produces html output. So there is no need to incorporate the script into a html page. But you can incorporate it ... simply search/read the forums - or better: make yourself familiar with the methods of SSI. P.S. Sometimes I'm really angry about such postings. :( You are the skipper of your server and therefore you have to know what you are doing there. Don't hold me responsible when you don't master your server. |
