Title: eAuction system requirements Post by mak1 on 01/19/06 at 02:28:55 I came across eAuction when I was searching for auction freeware, and I feel it is far better than every auction software ive seen including the ones that have a price tag, however, I dont know how to install it. Please help me. First of all, assuming all I have is the eAuction 1.6.1 download, what else would I need in order to install it. Ive read that you need cgi and pearl, well I have no knowledge of these at all. can someone tell me the exact files and things necessary to install and run eAuction. whoever has installed eAuction with complete success please tell me the exact files that you used and the way you installed them because I never had to install anything using pearl and cgi before. I am using windows xp. I need to know: . the exact server files and versions to download, . the exact pearl files and versions to download, . the exact cgi files and versions to download, . and anything else I will need, and how to install them all together. If you are a windows xp user who has successfully installed eAuction 1.6.1, please tell me exactly how you did it, step by step, with no passion, prejudice, or opinion. I have read the install instructions in the eAuction file and it doesnt explain any of this. I have also read every post in the forum and every page in the everyscript.de website, nothing gives an in depth complete explanation of how to install eAuction and the files needed. Please all you expert eAuctioners, help me with this. And I beg pardon for the lengthy post, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible so I wouldnt have to keep bugging people. Thank you in advance. |
Title: Re: eAuction system requirements Post by Dieter Werner on 01/19/06 at 18:41:53 CGI doesn't mean a program (or files) .. CGI is just the short form of 'Common Gate Interface' If you want to run eAuction with your local winXP system (for testing), you need - to activate your local IIS - to download/install perl (http://www.activestate.com) |
Title: Re: eAuction system requirements Post by mak1 on 01/19/06 at 20:08:58 Thank you for your reply. You say I need to activate my local IIS, I will find out what that is. You say I need to download/install perl, I will do that as well. But you say this is in order to run eAuction with my local winXP system for testing, would there be more to it if I want to have it not just for testing, but for an up and running, fully functioning, interactive auction site on the world wide web? Would I just simply upload it from my local winXP system to my web host? Dieter, thanks again, but I cant help but think theres more to it than that. Are you saying I dont need apache, php, and mysql? I must ask again, If there are any windows xp users who has successfully installed eAuction 1.6.1, please post exactly how you did it, step by step, including the exact files and versions you downloaded. If its too much to ask then dont worry about it. :( I will figure this out eventually. :'( |

Title: Re: eAuction system requirements Post by mak1 on 01/19/06 at 22:59:57 Dieter, You know its not like that. :) Its just that im the newest kind of newbie being freshly exposed to the world of pearl and cgi and everything is difficult at first, and when I read the forums it just seems more complicated than that, plus with all the technical terminology all the other users speak, its just hard to understand. Im in no position to doubt you. The truth is I didnt even mean for you to reply in the first place because you've done so much already just by creating the software. I will contribute monetarily and informationwise once I figure out how to get eAuction up and running, plus I want the 1.6.2 version anyway, I gotta donate for that if nothing else. But, I just wanted someone who has struggled with installation in the begging like im doing now, to realy post somewhat of a small yet in depth tutorial of exactly how they got it done. If no one does then I will be sure to do so once I figure it out. If its alright with you. I downloaded ActivePerl-5.8.7.813-MSWin32-x86-148120, I hope thats the right version, and I read up on the IIS thing you mentioned and it seems that thats a server type of thing like apache so I dont need apache, and I dont need php because perl is the coding language, if all thats right then its starting to make a little bit of sense to me... -eAuction is to be installed on the local server -IIS is the local server. -perl is the coding language. -cgi is a script to be configured in when using perl. If all this is right then all I need for the whole installation is IIS and perl just like you said, but If I missed anything or got something wrong please correct me. |

Sorry, but you are still in a wrong idea - eAuction has to be installed on a webserver - you can run it local (for testing) under IIS or Apache or ... - Perl is a language to program software - perl is a program which parses/executes Perl-Code - CGI is not a script - CGI is the Interface between a server and his client(s) |
