If I set "Posting Enabled" to 0, according to the config file, that would disable the posting. But if I bring up the site, I can still post a new item. Is there a way to actually disable posting of new items???

is there going to be an option? I was thinking about just using this to post a few personal items.

You can modify the navigation menu-bar and eliminate / hide the Post An Item link.
Then you could add the following to the URL in the location box to be able to post your items:

?action=new&lang=1
So your final URL to post would be http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/eAuction161/eAuction.pl?action=new&lang=1

A caveat is that knowledgeable users of this script could figure this out also, BUT if are copied on new registrations you can moderate and monitor who might try to post.

Not an elegant solution but one that is pragmatic.
