Title: How to password protect the New Item entry Post by Matt on 05/23/05 at 21:03:25 Hello, We are going to run our auction as a single user (we will be the only ones entering items into the auction), but allow anyone to bid. Has anyone worked on this type of function, perhaps wrote some code to have the administrator enter a password before the New Item page opens up ! That way, we could leave the Post New Items link on the main page, to make it easy to get to, but it would need to be password enabled to get any further. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Title: Re: How to password protect the New Item entry Post by mars on 05/23/05 at 23:09:56 We took the nav bar link out along with some others that do not make sense when doing a single user auction. The url or syntax is very simple to manually enter a new item and simply requires adding ?action=new〈=1 (for English) to the main script URL of http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/eAuction161/eAuction.pl. If you are concerned that knowledgeable eAuction users would be participating and bent on mischief, changing the url to, for example, &action=new2〈=1 would maybe be time consuming but not difficult. My caveat-we have done a lot of internal testing but have not gone live with our site but feel comfortable up to this point. Regards, mars |
